We offers back country trips in our 18′ Action Craft flats boat called the KNOTYET. These trips are limited to parties of 2 or less, unless arrangements are made beforehand.Flats fishing is enjoyed on both the Atlantic and Gulf sides of the Lower Keys as well as every flat in between. Traditionally flats are polled by a guide who stands on an elevated polling platform over the engine of the boat. From this vantage point the guide can see fish as they travel and feed in the water. The guide will then direct your attention to the fish so you can sight cast to the fish. You may choose either light spin or fly fishing tackle. Live bait is the most effective and we typically use shrimp, small crabs, and pinfish.
The main species targeted on the flats are: bonefish, permit, tarpon, mutton snapper, barracuda, and sharks.
FUNYET Charters offers evening tarpon trips on the 31′ FUNYET. Fish through sunset in one of the Lower Keys deeper channels, where large (usually over 100 lbs) tarpon travel from their daytime feeding grounds to the safety of the channels. These trips are offered during the spring and summer months only.
Flats fishing etiquette requires all species caught to be released
